The Barcelona keyboard startup that took over Fleksy.
A Barcelona iOS keyboard for sharing files, photos and calendar slots mid-chat, whose makers took over the far larger Fleksy keyboard in 2017 and later licensed it to other companies as an SDK.
The thingthing listing promised the "fastest way to access your digital things while chatting and emailing on iOS." Its keyboard carried a built-in calendar for checking availability, files from Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive, photos from the phone, Facebook and Instagram, and a search for restaurants, cafés and bars, so users could share things "without ever switching apps." The page, saved in September 2019, still described a private beta from Barcelona.
The app had been public for some time. When TechCrunch reported a €350,000 seed round in May 2016, led by Simile Venture Partners with Saatchinvest, Pioneers Ventures and Seedcamp, the first version had been out since September 2015, and co-founder and chief executive Olivier Plante put the app's monthly active users at about 20,000. He said the team had built its own keyboard and algorithms from scratch. By May 2017 the thingthing website was collecting names for an Android waitlist.
That July, TechCrunch reported that ThingThing was taking over development of Fleksy, a keyboard with 5 million to 10 million Android installs. Pinterest had acquired half of its team in June 2016, but not the keyboard itself. Plante put the two keyboards' combined active users at 1.5 million. He declined to say whether ThingThing was buying Fleksy outright, telling TechCrunch: "we're taking over development of the product." Whether thingthing's own iOS app would continue was still undecided.
By June 2020 ThingThing had fully acquired the Fleksy technology, TechCrunch wrote, and was licensing it to other companies through an SDK for Android and iOS, keeping the free Fleksy Android app as a showcase. Wikipedia's article on Fleksy says the consumer app had been removed from both Google Play and the App Store by late 2024. Neither thingthing.co nor fleksy.com loaded when checked in September 2026.
