The Los Angeles cannabis magazine that became a product guide called Proper.
A Los Angeles cannabis lifestyle site, also published as KINDLAND, that sponsored the Life is Beautiful festival in 2016 and in June 2018 announced it had combined with a design and technology startup to become Proper.
The KIND's Stompstart listing, captured in March 2016 and placed in Los Angeles, described "a lifestyle digital media site for today's modern cannabis enthusiast." It put the reader first: "It's not about what's in the joint, it's for the person behind it." The site promised stories "from culture to current events to lifestyle to investigative reporting."
A Wayback copy of thekindmedia.com from 8 November 2015 shows it publishing as TheKind: daily culture, lifestyle and news posts, a "WeedWeek" news roundup and a Wednesday newsletter. The publication also went by KINDLAND. Its SoundCloud account, thekindland, is named The Kind, is based in Los Angeles, gives a thekindmedia.com contact address and carries the tagline "Covering and uncovering cannabis culture and news."
On 22 September 2016 a press release said the Life is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas had partnered with KINDLAND, "a fast-growing cannabis media upstart," as its first cannabis sponsor, which the release called a first for a major US festival. It named Mike France as KINDLAND's president. In an April 2017 NewsWhip interview, France, by then described as founder and CEO, said, "We typically put out seven pieces of content a day," and that the audience was now "60/40 men to women."
On 14 June 2018 the team posted "Goodbye KINDLAND, Hello Proper." on Medium. It looked back to the start, "When we launched KINDLAND back in September of 2015, the industry wasn't what it is today," and said that late in 2017 the team had decided "to combine forces with a cannabis design and technology startup," then spent half a year on a new vision. The post, which does not name the partner, introduced the result: "Proper is a product recommendation platform for searching and shopping for cannabis products."
Proper's Medium feed last posted on 17 December 2019. The aproperhigh.com address given in the farewell no longer resolves, and thekindmedia.com redirects to an unrelated parking page for another domain.
