The Riga spec-writing tool that a UK app agency bought in 2017.
A web specification tool listed from Riga, whose acquisition was announced in December 2017 by the UK agency Netsells, itself bought by hedgehog lab in 2023.
Specfox billed itself as "the ridiculously simple way to write website specifications." Its Stompstart page, saved in August 2019 and placed in Riga, Latvia, set out to "put a stop to ambiguous requirements and the never-ending back and forth feedback loops." Users uploaded screens, added notes and generated PDFs, either as specifications for developers and designers or as feedback on web projects.
The tool had reached Product Hunt in 2015 as "Easy website specifications," with a launch team member named Kristaps. Its single comment said it "really saves time" and asked for a way to preview the content inside the PDF.
On 19 December 2017, Netsells, a British web and mobile app agency, announced that it had bought Specfox. The post by Brannan Coady, kept in a 2021 Wayback copy, called Specfox "the beautifully simple platform for producing annotated PDF website development specifications" and said it "has been acquired by Netsells." The first step, it said, had been to fix an SSL issue many users were seeing and move the platform to faster infrastructure; "a roadmap of over 40 features" included Dropbox sync, team accounts, folders and multilingual support. The post does not name the seller or mention Riga.
Companies House still lists Netsells Limited, incorporated in April 2012, as active. In April 2023 hedgehog lab announced that it had acquired Netsells in a £6.3 million investment deal with BGF, naming Coady as Netsells' former chief executive. The old Netsells address now forwards to the same post on hedgehog lab's site, retitled "hedgehog lab acquire Specfox".
specfox.com looped through redirects without serving a page when checked on 28 and 29 September 2026, so whether the tool still runs is unknown.
