PivotDesk, the Boulder desk-sharing marketplace that closed and came back.

A Boulder marketplace for renting out spare office seats that Industrious bought in 2017, that told customers it would close in December 2018, and that SquareFoot acquired and revived in February 2019.

"Businesses are dynamic. Real estate isn't," PivotDesk's Stompstart page began when the Wayback Machine saved it in February 2016. The Boulder marketplace let companies with spare office space list it at a price per seat, per month. Companies that needed room could browse postings, message hosts and book tours, and once both sides agreed, a month-to-month contract and the payments ran through PivotDesk. The image saved with the page shows a search map beside listing cards with photos and prices.

A year later it was sold. In March 2017 the coworking company Industrious bought PivotDesk for an undisclosed price, Mile High CRE reported, keeping four employees in Boulder and running it as a subsidiary.

In October 2018 PivotDesk emailed customers that the platform would end on 6 December, after five years of operation, BizWest reported. Members were offered a free day of coworking at any Industrious location.

The closure did not last. On 19 February 2019 SquareFoot, a New York commercial real estate technology company, announced that it had acquired PivotDesk and would run it as a subsidiary; terms were not disclosed. Chief executive Jonathan Wasserstrum said PivotDesk's space-sharing marketplace would help make SquareFoot "the one-stop shop for all small- and medium-business office space needs." BizWest reported the same day that PivotDesk had been brought back.

We could not establish what SquareFoot did with PivotDesk after that. The pivotdesk.com domain now carries an unrelated German-language gambling guide.
