The student freelance marketplace from three Portsmouth friends.

A UK marketplace where university students bid on freelance projects, founded by three Portsmouth students and backed by Just Develop It in 2015; its company was renamed BJA UK Limited in 2017 and dissolved in 2019.

Gradlancer's listing, captured in October 2015, invited employers to "find affordable skilled students for your next project in UK." Employers posted freelance roles for university students, the site matched students to them, and students bid for the work. A winning student dealt with the employer through the site and, once the job was done, sent an invoice and was paid. The listing placed the company in London.

Companies House records show Gradlancer Ltd was incorporated on 10 February 2014, with three directors: Anthony Adeloye, Benjamin Alfrey and Jay Gujral. In February 2015 Business Matters reported the launch of what it called "the UK's first student services marketplace," built by the three in their final year at university, with money and marketing, PR and technical help from the Hampshire firm Just Develop It. Its chief executive, Chris Phillips, said the firm tended to "invest in people rather than businesses." The founders also planned Prolancer, a version for professionals after graduation.

In November 2015 Real Business described the founders as three university friends from Portsmouth. Adeloye had run a summer lawn-mowing and car-cleaning business; Alfrey and Gujral had each sold goods from China on eBay. The platform offered 15 project categories, paid hourly or by fixed fee, and counted more than 5,000 students and 400 employers, the magazine reported. Gradlancer had raised £35,000 from Just Develop It, followed by a six-figure seed investment.

On 21 December 2017 the company changed its name to BJA UK Limited, with the same three directors. Its last accounts covered the year to 31 January 2018. It applied to be struck off in June 2019 and was dissolved on 24 September 2019. The gradlancer.co.uk domain no longer resolves.
