The Denver video app whose domain went on to home repairs and insurance.

Flyreel, a Denver iOS app for add-on video threads, shared its domain with Flyreel, Inc., which offered live video help from home-repair pros in 2016 and 2017, turned to AI property inspections for insurers by 2018, and was bought by LexisNexis Risk Solutions in 2022.

Flyreel's card was on the directory by November 2015, listed from Denver with a one-line pitch: an app "that lets people post videos that others can add-on to." The full listing said people were already using the free iOS app "for things like guitar battles, getting answers to questions, starting movements, and even just video chatting with friends." Its tags named its audience as marketers, consumers, promoters and Viners.

The listing linked to a page on get.flyreel.co, and that domain is the thread through everything that followed. In December 2014 flyreel.co was a login page for the app, titled "Flyreel | Record. React. Repeat." It names no company. Colorado records show Flyreel, Inc. formed on 13 April 2015 with a Denver address and Cole Winans as registered agent; it is the only Colorado entity with Flyreel in its name. A Flyreel GitHub organization, located in Denver and pointing to flyreel.co, was opened on 29 May 2015.

By March 2016 the site described a different product: "Live chat over video or text with local experts to get help with your home maintenance and improvement projects." A sign-up box promised "We'll text you as soon as it's ready", and the footer read "© 2016 Flyreel, Inc." In June 2017 it offered "live advice and estimates from top home pros in your area" for handyman, plumbing, electrical, painting and HVAC jobs. A homeowner could turn on video to show a pro the project and get "a free, accurate estimate without the in-home visit", and pros could get listed for free.

That October the pitch widened again. flyreel.co now promised "Next-Generation Business Platforms Powered by Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence", from chatbots and speech-to-text to live video and image recognition. By February 2018 it had narrowed to "Artificial Intelligence for Property Insurance": a conversational assistant that guided end users through inspections while computer vision documented a property's contents and condition, offered by Flyreel, Inc. from a Denver address.

In November 2020 a Rev1 Ventures post introducing a video interview said Winans "candidly discusses the dark days of pivoting away from two great solutions that wouldn't monetize," and how his flooded basement confirmed the market for Flyreel's claims assistant. The post does not name the two earlier products. The same month Built In Colorado reported a $10 million Series A led by IA Capital Group, with Google's Gradient Ventures and Guidewire Software among the investors, bringing Flyreel's total to $18 million. It described a four-year-old startup founded by Winans, with 23 employees and 15 major insurers as customers. The Colorado record dates the corporation a year earlier, to April 2015.

On 1 June 2022 LexisNexis Risk Solutions announced that it had acquired Flyreel, a Denver property insurtech with Winans as chief executive, whose app guides property owners through inspections by smartphone. It did not disclose terms. Colorado records show Flyreel, Inc. voluntarily dissolved on 18 August 2023. The GitHub organization kept adding repositories: Flyreel SDKs for iOS, Android, Flutter and React Native in April 2023, then camera, first-notice-of-loss and panorama modules in May 2024.

Today flyreel.co redirects to a LexisNexis page that sells LexisNexis Flyreel as an "AI-enabled, consumer-led property survey". The App Store developer page for Flyreel lists a single app, Property Assistant by Flyreel.
