The London credit-check startup whose company Apple bought.
A public-beta money app known to Stompstart only from a browse card, whose company, named by registration number on its January 2016 website, Apple took control of in 2022 and renamed Apple Payments Services Limited in 2023.
Only a browse card survives for Credit Kudos. Captured in February 2016, it describes a London app in public beta offering "smart financial management": a view of your spending, a free credit rating check, and a mission to "rid the world of problem debt by proactively informing people when they are going off course." The card's text breaks off mid-sentence, as the old browse pages did.
The card gives no website, but a month earlier the Wayback Machine had saved the homepage of creditkudos.com. Titled "Alternative Credit Scoring," it offered lenders a plugin that led users through sign-up and returned "instant results and analysis," said the service was already supporting applications at "a number of trial lenders and brokers in the UK," and named the company as part of Entrepreneur First's 2015/16 cohort. Its footer gave a London address for Credit Kudos Limited, company registration number 09873335. That number is how we follow the listing to a company.
Companies House shows Credit Kudos Limited incorporated on 16 November 2015. Its record of people with significant control lists Apple Inc. as holding 75 percent or more of the shares and voting rights from 21 March 2022. Neither company announced the deal. Two days later SiliconANGLE reported the purchase, putting the price at about $150 million on the word of sources who spoke to The Block, and describing a company that by then sold lenders credit insights and scores built from open banking transaction data. On 18 July 2023 the company changed its name to Apple Payments Services Limited. It is still active, and creditkudos.com no longer resolves.
