The Raleigh phone-contract service that closed to launch Veeto.

A Raleigh service that got customers out of cell phone contracts without early termination fees, announced its own closure to launch Veeto, and later saw its name return on its old domain as a Veeto contract buyout offer.

CellBreaker's Stompstart listing, captured in October 2015, read: "Easily switch cell phone carriers in 7 days with no early termination fees." The Raleigh, North Carolina company called itself "a consumer justice platform" that would "monitor your contracts for breaches by the carriers."

A June 2015 release called CellBreaker a 500 Startups company founded in 2013 and named Jon Colgan as chief executive. Its 2014 pilot had saved customers more than $160,000 in early termination fees, the company said.

Then CellBreaker posted its own farewell, headed "CellBreaker Is Closing": "The CellBreaker app will begin winding down in late 2015. If you were a fan of CellBreaker, then we are sorry: we failed you. If you were a foe, then you are welcome." The team said it had helped consumers win but had not made the service both stress-free and profitable, and was launching "a better justice as a service app called Veeto," for "any purchase from any company." An update dated June 2016 said Veeto had quietly launched and put the average CellBreaker saving at about $650.

The timing is not tidy. A Veeto blog post dated 4 January 2016 in its page data, which also gives a creation date of 25 June 2016, said CellBreaker had "announced this month that it is closing." Yet an April 2016 copy of cellbreaker.com still showed the sign-up page.

The name returned. In September 2025 the old domain carried "Cellbreaker | We Buyout Your Phone Contract," an offer to take over and cancel phone contracts. Its About section read "We're Veeto." By June 2026 the address showed a domain-parking page, and on 29 September 2026 veeto.co redirected to a page that returned a not-found error.
